South California Hit with Record Rain
Los Angeles was hit with record rainfall from Tropical Storm Hilary as Southern California wrestled with flooded roads, mudslides, and downed trees. A stretch of the I-10 freeway was closed.
The storm dumped heavy rain from the Mexico border up through Las Vegas and beyond. One of the worst hit communities was Palm Springs, where streets were flooded by debris flows, blocking traffic in and out of town.
The area was also hit by an earthquake over the weekend and rocked by continuing after-shocks through Monday. This morning, Hilary is headed toward Oregon and Idaho, with more rain expected. | Nations Line Up in New Race to the Moon
A race for the moon’s resources has begun, with the U.S., China, India, Russia, Japan, and even private companies vying for lunar dominance in a competition not seen since the era of the Cold War.
Russian space officials made it clear that they weren’t giving up despite the crash of their lunar vehicle this weekend. “This is about ensuring defensive capabilities,” said the head of Russia’s space effort.
All eyes now are on India, set to land on the moon’s south pole tomorrow. Its lander is already sending back photos.
That’s just the beginning: NASA’s Artemis 3 mission is set to return humans to the moon in 2025, and China plans to begin building a base on the moon in 2030. Here’s a list of the various moon missions. | All Movie Tickets Only $4 This Sunday
National Cinema Day returns for a second year this Sunday, with all movie tickets costing only $4 each at more than 3,000 locations or approximately 30,000 screens across the U.S.
The goal is to fill movie seats during the final dog days of summer. The summer box office is 16.6% ahead of 2022, thanks mainly to “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” but still 5.4% below 2019.
Last year’s inaugural National Cinema Day was the highest-attended day for the movies in 2022, which meant theater owners sold a lot of concession treats — where their real money is made.

The Healthy Alternative to Sugary Sports Drinks
It’s no secret that a large portion of the country is experiencing high summer temperatures. Now more than ever, it’s important to stay hydrated.
It’s easy to forget that our sweat isn’t just water. But why is it that we drink only water after a long run on a hot day? Our sweat consists of water and salt, so next time you’re reaching for that glass of water … remember to replenish those electrolytes!
After years of mixing his own electrolyte blends and frustration with a lack of healthy options on the market, LMNT Co-Founder and former Navy SEAL Robb Wolf used his experience as a biochemist to create his own product.
LMNT is your chance for a clean electrolyte boost after a hot summer day or intense workout. It tastes great, making it the perfect cocktail mixer or hangover cure.
Ready to hydrate your body the right way? All Flyover readers get a FREE sample pack of eight flavors today with any purchase, plus a zero-questions-asked refund policy.
