Good morning! On this date in 1866, the nation’s first roller rink was opened to the public in Newport, R.I., by James Plimpton, inventor of the modern quad roller skate. Wheels on your feet! It was a hit from the start.

House GOP To Subpoena Biden Family
The House GOP will subpoena Biden family members, potentially including President Joe Biden, over Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings, said Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
The committee released bank records showing at least $20 million paid to Hunter Biden’s companies from countries including Russia and Ukraine, and Comer said more testimony would be heard before issuing the subpoenas.
Democrats continue to argue there’s no proof directly tying President Biden to Hunter’s complicated web of deals. Others disagree, and this infographic breaks down the details. | UPS Drivers Heading to $170,000 Salaries
UPS drivers will earn an average of $170,000 in annual pay and benefits at the end of the proposed new five-year contract negotiated with the Teamsters Union, according to UPS CEO Carol Tomé.
That’s up almost 20% from the current average pay at UPS. By comparison, average pay increased 4.5% for all American workers between June 2022 and June 2023. The news drove searches for UPS delivery driver jobs up by 50%.
The agreement covers 340,000 workers at the package carrier. They’re currently in the middle of a vote that will end on Aug. 22 to ratify the contract. | Virgin Galactic Rockets Tourists Into Space
Virgin Galactic finally launched its first spaceflight with paying customers, including a former Olympian who bought his ticket 18 years ago when they were first offered. Tickets cost $200,000 then; they’re $450,000 now.
The Virgin space plane flew about 55 miles high for a brief flight that gave its three passengers a sense of weightlessness while they floated around the cabin before the plane glided back to a runway landing.
The passengers included 80-year-old British Olympian Jon Goodwin and a mother-daughter team from Antigua who were sweepstakes winners. The daughter, at 18, became the youngest person to go into space.
