Good Morning! On this day in 1792, workers broke ground in Philadelphia on the first federal building erected under the U.S. Constitution: the U.S. Mint. The three-story brick building that followed was the tallest in the city, with the words “Ye Olde Mint” painted across its face.

American households own more than 56 million dogs, but no single breed rules the country. Below, we’ve got a map of the favorite breed in every state, and the regional splits are a lot of fun. Trump May Pull Blanche Nomination for AG

President Trump said Thursday he may temporarily withdraw Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general and resubmit it after two Republican senators blocking him leave office in January.

Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina want the Justice Department to guarantee in writing that a $1.8 billion fund tied to Trump’s tax settlement is permanently dead. That settlement also barred the IRS from auditing the family’s past tax returns.

The Senate Judiciary Committee scrapped Thursday’s vote. With every Democrat opposed, a single Republican defection sinks the nomination. Cornyn said the two are not the only senators with concerns.

Trump called both men finished politically and said Blanche stays on as acting attorney general regardless. Waiting them out carries risk, since Republicans could lose Senate seats in November.

World Cup Deal Sparks Euro Boycott

Europe’s 55 soccer associations voted unanimously on Thursday to boycott all FIFA competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups, over a plan to sell part of the tournament to private investors.

FIFA wants to spin its commercial rights into a $20 billion company and sell a 20% stake to outside investors. The lead buyer would be a firm founded by Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law.

European officials called the plan irresponsible and indefensible, saying it was hatched in secret. A source close to his firm said Joshua Kushner has no role in the Trump administration and donates only to liberal causes.

A boycott would strip Germany, France, England, and reigning champion Spain from the 2030 field. FIFA’s 211 members vote in September.

List: America’s Top Dog Breed by State

New data shows the most popular dog breed in every state, and the map is more regional than anyone might guess. Eight breeds finish first somewhere in the country.

Labrador retrievers lead in 16 states, more than any other breed, though that is still fewer than a third of the country. Chihuahuas follow close behind with 14 states.

The clusters are striking. Labs dominate the Northeast, Chihuahuas take much of the Southwest, and American pit bull terriers lead in several Southern states.

A few states break the pattern. California and Florida both prefer French bulldogs, Colorado picks Golden retrievers, and New York goes for Yorkshire terriers. The rankings come from 1.2 million dog insurance records. See your state’s most popular dog.
