Good Morning! On this day in 1987, President Ronald Reagan delivered one of his most famous Cold War speeches, challenging Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down” the Berlin Wall. See the historic moment here.
It’s mosquito season, and one engineer decided he’d had enough. He built an AI-guided laser that tracks the little bloodsuckers and zaps them out of midair, clearing his entire house in a single night. We have details in Science below.
Before you grab another last-minute tie, take a look at The Flyover Father’s Day Gift Guide. We have smarter picks he’ll actually use, including a portable pressure washer for cleaning up cars, patios, gear, and more.
Today’s sponsor, United States Tungsten, is highlighting what it sees as a major opportunity in America’s push for critical mineral independence as demand for tungsten surges and domestic production efforts gain momentum amid new legislation and growing national security concerns.

Trump Cancels Iran Strikes, Touts Deal
President Trump canceled planned strikes against Iran on Thursday, saying treaty negotiations have been approved at “the highest level of Iranian leadership,” with a signing to be announced shortly.
The reversal came hours after Trump threatened to seize Kharg Island, the hub of Iran’s oil exports, and take control of the country’s energy industry.
Trump said a deal could be signed within days and that the terms had been approved by all parties, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt. Iran hasn’t publicly confirmed an agreement. See Trump’s post.
The announcement came in the wake of an exchange of attacks by both nations, including an Iranian drone downing a U.S. Army helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. The crew was rescued safely. Watch the announcement of last night’s canceled attack here.

White House Taps Jay Clayton as New Intel Chief
President Trump said Thursday he will nominate Jay Clayton, Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor and former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, as the next director of national intelligence.
Trump wrote on social media that few people in the legal community “are respected at the level of Jay” and urged the Senate to confirm him quickly. See the post.
The nomination follows congressional pushback over Trump’s choice of housing regulator Bill Pulte, who has no intelligence background, to serve as acting director starting June 19.
Hours earlier, Congress rejected a short-term extension of a key surveillance law after Democrats objected to the Pulte pick. Section 702, which allows warrantless monitoring of foreigners abroad, expires today.

SpaceX IPO Mints Employee Millionaires
SpaceX begins trading on the Nasdaq today in what’s expected to be the largest IPO in history, a $1.75 trillion debut set to make millionaires out of more than 4,000 current and former employees.
The windfall reaches well beyond the engineering labs. Stock went to workers at every level, including the welders, machinists, and cafeteria cooks who built the rocket program.
One former welder who joined the company in 2015, making $28 an hour, is sitting on shares worth roughly $880,000. Shares held by some employees could be worth tens of millions of dollars or more.
Real estate agents near company hubs are already fielding calls about everything from lakefront condos to 1,000-acre ranches. Agents say some clients’ first purchase will be a house for their parents—or a Gulfstream private jet.

This Metal Jumped 557% And America Is Finally Bringing It Home
Tungsten powers everything from aerospace and EVs to military defense. It’s projected to become a $10 billion industry by 2030. For too long, America has relied on foreign supply to meet that demand.
That’s shifting. With new US legislation moving to ban foreign tungsten and rebuild domestic mineral independence, one American supplier is stepping in to fill this critical gap.
United States Tungsten is working toward reopening a domestic recovery and processing facility through the Tungsten Queen, holding approximately 1 million tons of tungsten.
As critical mineral legislation accelerates, the company is already in talks for government supply contracts, positioning itself at the front of a supply chain America is determined to own.
This is domestic mineral independence in action.
