Good Morning! On this day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated at 12:30 p.m. while riding in a motorcade in Dallas during a campaign visit.
Some people’s exes leave them with broken hearts, but a Welsh man’s ex-girlfriend unknowingly tossed away a hard drive containing Bitcoin cryptocurrency that’s now worth $800 million, as you can read below.
Today, we’re sponsored by World Concern, the non-profit dedicated to helping Christian children in Somalia. Be sure to check them out in today’s edition.

Trump Taps Bondi for Attorney General as Gaetz Withdraws
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration as President-elect Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee on Thursday, saying his nomination was becoming “a distraction” to the transition.
Trump then nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, for the post. Bondi served as Florida’s AG from 2011 to 2019 under then-Governors Rick Scott and Charlie Crist.
Gaetz, who was disliked by many GOP legislators, faced strong Senate Republican opposition. He resigned his Florida congressional seat when first nominated by Trump and will be replaced in a special election.
Several Republican senators expressed relief at Gaetz’s withdrawal, with Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) saying any confirmation hearing would have been “like (Supreme Court Justice Brett) Kavanaugh on steroids.”

GOP Wins Final Senate Seat in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. Bob Casey conceded his reelection bid to Republican David McCormick on Thursday, giving the GOP a 53-47 majority in the U.S. Senate next year.
The Associated Press projected McCormick as the winner of the tight race on Nov. 7, but Casey refused to concede for over two weeks, following a slow ballot-counting process marked by lawsuits and accusations of law violations.
The slim margins triggered an automatic recount, with results expected next week, but Casey’s surprise concession interrupted the process. McCormick will now be sworn in as Pennsylvania’s junior senator in January.

Man Sues to Find $800 Million of Bitcoin Lost in Dump
A man from Wales is launching his final legal battle against the local council for the right to search a landfill for his hard drive containing 8,000 Bitcoins, worth close to $800 million today.
James Howells, 39, whose partner mistakenly discarded the hard drive at the dump in 2013, faces an initial hearing next month, where the council will attempt to dismiss his case.
Despite offering the council up to 25% of the recovered value and claiming he has narrowed the search area to 100,000 tons of waste, town officials maintain his proposed excavation is “not possible” due to environmental concerns.
Howells, a systems engineer, mined Bitcoin in 2009 when it was virtually worthless. He quit mining after his then-partner Hafina complained about his noisy laptop keeping her awake.
The hard drive containing the Bitcoin data later ended up in a plastic bag that Hafina threw in the town dump. Bitcoin’s value is now approaching $100,000, an all-time high.

Somalia is facing a devastating combination of natural disasters, global conflicts, widespread poverty, and disease outbreaks. East Africa has just endured its worst drought in 40 years, leaving tens of millions without access to clean water, wiping out millions of livestock, and destroying crops. With domestic food production crippled, Somalia has relied heavily on imports—90% of its wheat coming from Russia and Ukraine—until those shipments stopped.
Now, two in five children in Somalia suffer from acute malnutrition, and cholera is spreading in some regions. The food crisis, compounded by global humanitarian aid being redirected to Europe and the Middle East, has created a perfect storm, leading to a sharp rise in child malnutrition.
