Biden Speech Doesn’t Move Approval Ratings
In the first major poll released since the State of the Union address, President Biden’s approval ratings remain largely unchanged: Two-thirds of Americans disapprove of his handling of the border, the economy, and the Gaza war.
According to the ABC News/Ipsos poll, roughly a third of Americans, mainly Democrats over the age of 65, say Biden exceeded expectations with the speech. Another third didn’t watch at all.
The poll also showed that Americans are split almost evenly on whether they trust Biden or former President Donald Trump more, with 36% trusting Trump more, 33% trusting Biden, and 30% saying neither.
On Saturday, a flight to Mexico City was diverted to Los Angeles due to a hydraulic issue, and on Friday, a flight drifted off the runway in Houston and rolled onto the grass. A Thursday flight to Japan had a tire fall off during takeoff and had to divert to L.A.
Earlier in the week, a United flight made an emergency landing after one of the engines exploded minutes into the trip, causing intense flames to be visible to passengers.
Most of the incidents involved Boeing aircraft, currently under criminal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice for a January incident with Alaska Airlines in which a window blew out in flight.
Tarheels Win ACC, Iowa Takes Big Ten Women’s Trophy
The college basketball regular season ended this weekend with No. 7 North Carolina beating No. 9 rival Duke 84-79 to win the ACC regular season championship outright for the first time since 2017.
In the first half, Duke’s Kyle Flipowski apparently tripped Tarheel Harrison Ingram, but Flipowski denied doing it on purpose. You can see the video here.
In women’s basketball, No. 2 Iowa won its third straight Big Ten championship 94-89 in overtime with a furious fourth-quarter comeback. Caitlin Clark scored 34 points, with 12 assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
