Trump Defies Court, Sends Guard to Oregon
President Trump on Sunday sent 300 California National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon, defying a federal court order that blocked him from deploying Oregon’s own Guard.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the order as “un-American,” vowing to sue and accusing Trump of using the military as “political pawns.”
The statement came a day after U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut, who was appointed by Trump, blocked the deployment of the Oregon National Guard to Portland.
The temporary restraining order on troop mobilization expires Oct. 18, setting up a major legal and political fight over presidential power and the limits of military involvement at home.

Hundreds Trapped in Snowstorm on Mt Everest
Hundreds of tourists hiking on the eastern slope of Mount Everest in Tibet were trapped in a severe snowstorm over the weekend.
Local operators said they had guided 350 trekkers to safety in a small township and were in contact with the remaining 200-plus still out in the snowy conditions. Hikers reported that their tents were collapsing under heavy snowfall and that “hypothermia was a real risk.”
The storm, which locals said was extraordinary for October, hit at peak tourist season for the world’s tallest mountain. This weekend was particularly full as trekkers took advantage of an eight-day Chinese holiday.
Early reports suggested nearly 1,000 people were trapped in the severe weather, but it was unclear whether trekking guides and staff were accounted for or whether the north face of Everest, also in Tibet, was affected.
