 Trump on AI Race: ‘Whoever Wins AI Wins’
President Trump waved off the week’s AI doomsday warnings Sunday at his golf course in Ireland: “We’re leading China in AI. We’re the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly I want to keep it that way, because whoever wins AI wins.”
He blamed “very negative forces” for “bringing up things that won’t happen,” as AI fear spreads from Silicon Valley to Bible studies, dinner tables, and late-night TV following viral resignation warnings from Anthropic researchers.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called China the “toughest dilemma” for his proposed slowdown, while Xi Jinping pushed a global AI framework at Sunday’s BRICS summit.
House Speaker Mike Johnson wants the AI chiefs summoned to the White House, and Trump hosts Xi there Sept. 24, with AI on the agenda.

Russian Drones Force Boris Johnson Off Train
A Russian drone struck a Ukrainian train about a mile from the Polish border Sunday, shortly after former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and top European security officials had passed through on another train.
The drone hit the train’s engine 15 minutes after its passengers were evacuated. No one was hurt, and Ukraine’s railway said the “diplomatic train” was quite possibly the real target.
The officials, heading home from a security conference in Kyiv, included a top adviser to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Former CIA Director David Petraeus was on a third train nearby.
“I don’t know what warped logic drove Putin to blow up a stationary Ukrainian locomotive,” Johnson wrote, urging allies to send Ukraine “the air defences they need.”

Governor Candidate Swims From Sinking Plane
Tom Tiffany, Wisconsin’s Republican candidate for governor, swam to safety after the plane carrying him home from a campaign dinner lost power and ditched in Lake Wausau.
The pilot reported engine trouble on approach to Wausau Downtown Airport around 8:50 p.m. CT Saturday, the FAA said. The four-seat Beechcraft Bonanza began sinking, and the two swam to shallow water to wait for rescuers.
Both were released from the hospital, Tiffany with stitches above his right eye. “God was watching over us tonight,” he wrote.
His opponent David Crowley, a Democrat, locked in a tight race with Tiffany, praised “the heroism of the pilot.”
