70% Against Trans Athletes Switching Competition
Nearly 70% of Americans say transgender athletes should only be allowed to compete against athletes of their own biological gender, up from 62% two years ago, according to a new Gallup Poll.
The increase in opposition comes from Republicans, Democrats, and independents, with Republicans the most strongly opposed. But even a majority of Democrats now oppose trans athletes, born as men, competing against women.
“The pendulum has swung too far, and people are beginning to see what’s at stake if it continues,” said Riley Gaines, a former women’s swimming champion at the University of Kentucky. | New Jersey Tops Property Taxes List
A new ranking of all 50 states shows New Jersey has the highest property taxes in the U.S. Only NJ and Illinois have property taxes higher than 2%, according to the Tax Foundation.
For the 10 states with the lowest property tax, the rate averages closer to 0.5%. The least-taxed state, Hawaii, has a rate of 0.32%. For a $416,000 house, a homeowner in New Jersey would pay $9,279 in taxes compared to a $1,332 tax bill in Hawaii.
See how your state ranks: Here’s a map showing average property taxes by state and the 10 highest and 10 lowest states ranked by tax rate. | Cheap Deals for National Cheeseburger Day
Today is National Cheeseburger Day, and Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King, and others are offering deals and discounts, down to a 1-cent junior bacon cheeseburger offered by Wendy’s all week.
McDonald’s is offering double cheeseburgers for 50 cents, and Burger King customers with Royal Perks accounts can get two-for-one cheeseburgers. Here’s a list of deals.
The deals come with a caveat or two, the main one being that the major chains offer discounts only through their apps and not if you just walk up to the counter. However, the apps are free to download.
