Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day! The Editor has fond memories of experiencing Chicago’s traditional celebration, and we hope you enjoy it as well. Nathan Wade Withdraws From Trump Case
Special prosecutor Nathan Wade withdrew Friday from the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump.
Wade, who has been romantically linked to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, said his withdrawal was in the “interest of democracy.”
Wade’s resignation came hours after Judge Scott McAfee said that in order for the case against Trump to continue, Willis had to either “step aside” or Wade could “withdraw.”
McAfee also hinted at a gag order for Willis if she continued to make public statements about Trump and other defendants.
Killer Storms Strike the Midwest
A massive storm system rolled through several states Thursday night, producing tornadoes that destroyed homes and businesses and left three dead in Ohio.
According to the National Weather Service, an EF2 tornado touched down near Orchard Island in west-central Ohio and caused severe damage to several communities. You can see photos of the damage here.
Tornadoes also struck parts of Indiana and Kentucky, leaving a similar trail of downed trees, powerlines, and destroyed homes. A tornado coupled with baseball-sized hail is thought to have hit Little Rock, Arkansas, too.
Unconfirmed reports of tornadoes were also made in Illinois and Missouri.
America’s Most Valuable Stamp
A rare 1-cent postage stamp from 1868, featuring the likeness of Benjamin Franklin, could fetch up to $5 million at auction.
The 1-cent “Z-grill” stamp has been called “America’s Most Valuable Postage Stamp” because of its zig-zag indentations, “Z-grill”, impressed on the stamp to prevent reuse. Only one other stamp with the indentations is known to exist.
Billionaire investor Bill Gross, nicknamed the “Bond King,” owns the stamp. He’s been known to sell valuable stamps and donate the proceeds to charity.
The inverted “Jenny” stamp sold for more than $2 million, a U.S. record, last year. A 1-cent magenta stamp issued in British Guiana in 1856 and sold in 2021 holds the global record at $8.3 million.
