Happy Saturday! On this date in 1977, Memorial Day weekend opened with an intergalactic bang as the first of George Lucas’ blockbuster Star Wars movies hit American theaters.
The Indy 500 is this Sunday, and since 1936, the winning driver has consumed a bottle of milk in victory lane. This got us thinking about what type of milk they are drinking. We asked the office their favorite, and 2% won. Take the poll below and tell us which type of milk you prefer.

World Court Orders Israel to Stand Down
The United Nations’ top court ordered Israel to immediately suspend all military action in Rafah Friday as the international organization continues to pressure Israel to end the war in Gaza.
Despite the World Court’s proclamation, the Israeli government indicated it would move forward with military operations against Hamas in Rafah. Last week, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reinforced Israel’s position and said Israel would reject international pressure and defend itself.
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham also disagreed with the United Nations’ statements and supported Israel’s presence in Rafah. The Republican said, “The ICJ can go to hell.”
Annual Barbecue Prices Up 10%
The average cost of a Memorial Day weekend barbecue increased 10% this year as inflation has increased the prices of routine cookout items such as burgers, hot dogs, buns, and condiments.
Last year, the average price of a cookout was $27, but with meat prices up nearly 15% and condiments like relish as high as 50% more, the cost is now an estimated at $30.
Getting to the annual barbecue might be the cheapest part of the holiday. According to AAA, the national average for gas was $3.61 per gallon Friday, down $0.05 from one month ago but $0.05 higher from a year ago.
Memorial Day Streaming Options
The Memorial Day weekend has long been thought of as the unofficial start to the summer season. For those of you not traveling or cooking out, we’ve put together a few patriotic television streaming options to help you relax and get into the spirit of the holiday.
The streaming service Max features two Flyover staff favorites, Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Both are WWII war dramas and follow the experiences of troops in European and Pacific theaters of the global conflict. The realism is enhanced by the attention to detail and superb acting.
Blockbusters Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick can be found on Paramount Plus. While the films lack the realism of Band of Brothers and The Pacific, the movies are filled with action, fun and brief moments of awe.
The top streaming option recommended by The Flyover staff was The Great Escape. It is universally loved in the office and combines elements of drama, comedy, realism, and fun. You can find The Great Escape on Amazon Prime Video.
