TikTok Trend Praises bin Laden Letter
TikTok came under heavy fire this week for allowing users to post videos linking to a letter written by Osama bin Laden justifying his Sept. 11 attacks on America. The videos have racked up more than 14 million views.
The bin Laden letter originally appeared in the Guardian newspaper 20 years ago, and the Guardian pulled it off its website this week. TikTok deleted its Osama bin Laden hashtag, but many users continue to quote the letter favorably.
TikTok, already under scrutiny by Congress, was criticized by 9/11 family groups, as well as in a call between TikTok executives and Jewish celebrities. The executives reportedly acknowledged the problem but said there was no simple solution.
Haley Moves Into 2nd in New Hampshire
Nikki Haley has moved into second place in New Hampshire in two new polls and, for the first time, closed the gap a bit against Donald Trump, who maintains his solid lead with the state’s primary just ten weeks away.
A University of New Hampshire poll shows Trump getting 42% of the vote against Haley’s 20%, the best she’s done in the state. In a Monmouth University survey, Trump has 46% support against Haley’s 18%.
The Monmouth poll has Chris Christie in third with 11%, Vivek Ramaswamy at 8%, and Ron DeSantis coming in last at 7%. Those are clustered within the margin of error, which is 4.5%.
Las Vegas Grand Prix Ready to Roar
Formula 1 racers are ready to speed through the first-ever Las Vegas Grand Prix tonight. This year’s dominant F1 driver, Max Verstappen, is looking for his 53rd career victory to become third on the all-time win list.
The street race gets underway tonight at 10 p.m. Las Vegas time on ESPN, despite Thursday’s first practice being called off because a loose drain cover damaged a Ferrari chassis.
Las Vegas transformed its famous strip for this event, the most expensive Grand Prix on this year’s calendar. Hotel rates soared, but reports indicate the city may have overestimated demand. Tickets are still available at discounted prices.
