Today, the 2024 Paris Olympics come to a close, having offered a slightly higher number of events than the 1948 Games—just shy of 200 more!

Israel Strikes Gaza City Target
An Israeli airstrike in Gaza has reportedly killed at least 100 people, according to Palestinian authorities. Israel says it killed 19 militants and that Hamas is exaggerating the civilian death toll.
The target was a school repurposed as a shelter for displaced Palestinians, but according to Israeli officials, it also held a command room for senior Hamas leaders.
The Biden administration said it was “deeply concerned” about civilian casualties.
Prominent businesswoman Susan Wojcicki died Friday at 56 after two years of battling lung cancer. Wojcicki was the former CEO of YouTube as well as an executive at Google, having joined the company in 1999 as one of its first few employees.
She was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in 2014.
Wojcicki’s son, Marco Troper, died in February after a drug overdose in his UC Berkeley dorm room. Husband Dennis Troper called Wojcicki “a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many.”
Utah’s Double Arch Collapses
The iconic Double Arch rock formation at Glen Canyon in Utah collapsed this week, according to the National Park Service.
A frequently-visited site, the Navajo sandstone feature was also known as the “Toilet Bowl,” “Crescent Pool,” and “Hole in the Roof.”
