Corporation for Public Broadcasting to Shut Down
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting on Friday announced it will shut down operations in September after losing $1.1 billion in federal funding.
CPB, with close to 100 employees, provides funds to 1,500 local public radio and television stations as well as PBS and NPR.
President Trump and Republican allies have long argued that taxpayer funding for public media represents unnecessary government spending, while claiming that PBS and NPR programming exhibits anti-conservative bias.
Health officials are warning of a rise in potentially deadly “flesh-eating” bacteria cases this summer along the Gulf Coast, particularly in Florida and Louisiana.
The Vibrio vulnificus bacteria typically occur in warm ocean water and can affect people through open wounds. Symptoms include stomach illness, severe wound infections, and in some cases, life-threatening blood poisoning.
This year, health officials in Florida have confirmed 13 cases and four deaths, while Louisiana has reported 17 cases and four deaths.
Both Mississippi and Alabama have reported single cases, neither fatal. Vibrio is the source of about 80,000 illnesses in the United States per year.
Hot Dog Spill Snarls Highway Traffic
A truckload of hot dogs spilled across a Pennsylvania interstate Friday morning, briefly clogging traffic in both directions on the busy highway.
A tractor-trailer hit a passenger vehicle and scraped a concrete divider, spilling over 1,000 pounds of frozen frankfurters across the highway. Four people were injured and transported to a local hospital.
Crews assessed barrier damage and used heavy machinery to clean up, scooping boxes of scattered sausages from the roadway. You can see the clean-up efforts here.

Most people think SPF is just about preventing sun damage. But your skin is dealing with so much more every single day. Free radicals from pollution, blue light, and other environmental stressors accumulate over time. Most sunscreens don’t protect against any of it.
OneSkin SPFs are different. They’re still broad-spectrum mineral sunscreens. But they’re also antioxidants, barrier support, and longevity science powered by the OS-01 peptide that targets how your skin ages at the cellular level.
