Gas Prices Tumble Ahead of Holiday Weekend
Gas prices are likely to be at their lowest level since 2021 this Memorial Day weekend, just in time for nearly 40 million Americans to hit the road, according to industry estimates.
Motorists can expect to spend an average of $3.08 for a gallon of regular gas over the federal holiday, according to one consumer-focused platform. That’s 50 cents a gallon less than Memorial Day in 2024.
AAA projects more than 45 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home – by car and by air – from May 22-26, passing the record of 44 million travelers set in 2005.
A White House official involved in the planning said the cuts are designed to target Washington’s so-called “deep state.” The White House believes the NSC is full of long-term, bureaucratic staffers who don’t align with Trump’s agenda.
The restructuring is expected to reduce the agency’s influence, transforming it from a powerful policymaking body into a small organization focused more on implementing the President’s agenda than on shaping it.
Race officials penalized Team Penske for a rules violation, moving 2018 Indy 500 winner Will Power and two-time champion Josef Newgarden to the back of the 33-car field. Three Penske executives have been dismissed.
Rookie Robert Shwartzman secured the coveted pole position for the race, surprising the racing world last Sunday with a qualifying speed of 232.790 mph. He is one of three first-time drivers at the Brickyard.
