US Walks Out as Iran Speaks at UN

Iran’s president defied President Trump at the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday, vowing “we will never bow our head” as the U.S. representative walked out. A day earlier, Trump had used his own speech there to say he was weighing whether to “annihilate” Iran.

President Masoud Pezeshkian held up photos he said showed schoolchildren killed in the war and called Iran a “victim of terrorism.” After the speech, a White House spokesperson told the media Iran is an “evil country” that must never have a nuclear weapon.

U.S. envoys spent three hours trading messages with Iran through Qatari mediators on Tuesday, the first talks since a ceasefire collapsed this summer. There was no breakthrough, but Trump predicted a deal “right after the elections.”

Trump Board Unveils $2.45B Gaza Plan

President Trump’s Board of Peace unveiled a $2.45 billion plan Wednesday to rebuild Gaza over the next six months. Its 66 projects are meant to lay the groundwork for a new Palestinian administration.

About $1 billion would go to infrastructure, including $400 million for insulated temporary homes to move displaced families out of tents and $275 million to clear rubble and unexploded bombs.

Another $885 million covers security, including a base in Rafah for up to 5,000 international troops and a $20 million buyback program for weapons held by Hamas and other armed groups.

The package isn’t fully funded yet, and it depends on cooperation from both Israel and Hamas. Officials hope work can begin after Israel’s Oct. 27 elections. “There are no shortcuts. No Plan B,” White House envoy Steve Witkoff said.

How Grocery Costs Compare by State

A new state-by-state map of 2026 grocery prices shows Hawaii pays 36.3% more than the national average, while Mississippi pays 6.8% less.

California is the priciest in the lower 48 at 10.5% above average, followed by Maryland and Washington, D.C. Much of the South and Plains fall below the benchmark, with Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi at the bottom.

Grocery prices nationally have jumped nearly 30% since 2019, but most states cluster within a few points of the average.

New York sits almost exactly at the national average for groceries, even though its overall cost of living ranks sixth-highest in the country. See where your state ranks here.
