Israel Signals Potential Ground Assault
Israel appears ready to launch a ground offensive against Hezbollah, having called up two reserve brigades and urging troops to be prepared for a “possible entry” into Lebanon.
The heightened tensions come after Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah rocket launch sites, resulting in over 500 casualties, and Hezbollah launching rockets and a missile at Tel Aviv, most of which were intercepted by air defenses.
Hezbollah has vowed to continue its attacks until Israel leaves Gaza, despite Israel demanding that the terror group halt its efforts so 60,000 displaced northern Israelis can return home.
Meanwhile, in Washington, the Biden administration continues to search for a new diplomatic initiative to bring about a pause in the fighting.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in at least 15 Florida coastal counties, while states of emergency were declared in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Here’s a live tracker.
Officials warned Helene could be the worst storm in Tallahassee’s history, with its effects potentially reaching as far inland as Atlanta. Here are some photos as people prepare.

Death Penalty Use at a 20-Year High
Five death row inmates across multiple states faced execution within the span of this one week, the most within seven days in the U.S. in over 20 years.
The first occurred Friday in South Carolina, and two more took place in Missouri and Texas on Tuesday. The two remaining executions are scheduled this week in Alabama and Oklahoma.
In Alabama, inmate Alan Eugene Miller, sentenced to death for the 1999 murders of three people, is set to receive the second-ever nitrogen gas execution today.
According to the Death Penalty Information Center, seven more executions are scheduled for this year.
