Question: What’s the loudest sound ever recorded?

Answer: The eruption of the Krakatoa volcano on Aug. 27, 1883, created what scientists believe was the loudest sound ever produced on the surface of the planet, estimated at 310 decibels. It was heard 100 miles away in North Jakarta at 172 decibels and actually recorded on that era’s early phonograph devices — you can hear it here.
