Question: Which is the only king in a standard deck of cards that doesn’t have a mustache?

Answer: It’s the king of hearts. He’s the only king without a mustache, and he holds a sword behind his head that makes him look like he’s stabbing himself, which is why the king of hearts is also called the “suicide king.” Today’s Anglo-American face cards come from designs made in Rouen, France, in the early 1500s, and the king of hearts is believed to have originally had a mustache that was lost through poor copying of that design. The sword started out as something else: early English cards show him wielding an axe, but because blockmakers copied it poorly, the axe lost its head over the years, and the remaining shaft became a sword that seems to go into his head.
