Question: Where did the lunar rock armalcolite get its name?
Answer: Armalcolite is an opaque, bluish-grey titanium dioxide mineral first discovered in one of the lunar soil samples taken from the Sea of Tranquility on the first Apollo 11 moon mission. The name comes from an amalgam of the names of the three astronauts on that mission: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. The extremely rare mineral has since been found in just a handful of places on Earth.
