 Colombia Quake Kills More Than 100
A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 111 people, injuring nearly 90, and collapsing 61 buildings across cities in the country’s coffee-growing heartland.
Cameras caught buildings swaying and crumbling as the quake rolled through early in the morning. See the moment it struck here.
In Cali, Colombia’s third-largest city, rescue crews searched for about 15 people trapped under one of the 20 collapsed buildings, and at least six airports suspended flights due to structural damage.
President Abelardo de la Espriella declared a national disaster and rushed to the hardest-hit region, while the Trump administration said it stands ready to help with recovery.

White House Closing Food Additive Loophole
The Trump administration moved Monday to close a 68-year-old loophole that lets food companies add new ingredients without telling the FDA, while rolling out the government’s first-ever definition of “ultra-processed food.”
Since 1958, manufacturers have been free to decide for themselves that an additive is “generally recognized as safe” and ship it. The proposal would make FDA notification mandatory, with a public inventory of every submission.
“Nearly 60% of the American diet is made up of ultra-processed foods, and childhood obesity now affects more than one in five American children,” said Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Under the proposal, the FDA would get 180 days to rule on new submissions, and companies already selling self-approved additives would have to turn over their data.

Fastest Man on Wheels Chases New Record
Andy Green, the retired British fighter pilot who became the only driver ever to break the sound barrier, returns to Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats this morning chasing a new land speed record in a hydrogen-powered car.
The 32-foot, bright yellow JCB Hydromax packs two hydrogen combustion engines with 1,600 horsepower. Green, 64, hit 368 mph in practice last week, already faster than his own 20-year-old diesel record.
British equipment giant JCB has poured more than $134 million into hydrogen engines that it hopes to showcase during the run. Any records must be certified by racing’s world governing body.
