Good morning! Today in 1814, the first fully effective steam locomotive chugged a load of coal in England, ushering in the Rail Age. On July 25 just 18 years later, in 1832, the U.S. suffered its first fatal railroad accident.
In today’s edition, we’re discussing how White House aides protect President Biden from appearing frail, how a rude British heckler fired up Open Championship winner Brian Harmon, and a look inside Bob Dylan’s Scottish castle, now up for sale.

Justice Dept. Sues Texas Over Migrant Barrier
The Justice Department sued Tex. Gov Greg Abbott on Monday over a floating barrier on the Rio Grande designed to block migrants from crossing into the U.S. from Mexico.
The lawsuit seeks to force Texas to remove a roughly 1,000-foot line of bright orange wrecking-ball-sized buoys that the Biden administration calls dangerous both to people and the environment.
Abbott has refused to back down and, in tweets leading up to the lawsuit, said Biden would “face the consequences” if Texas were sued. The governor says the state’s efforts have helped it seize nearly 400,000 illegal migrants and 422 million doses of fentanyl. | Witness: Biden Joined Hunter on Money Calls
Hunter Biden’s former best friend Devon Archer is expected to testify in Congress this week that he saw Hunter put his father, then-VP Joe Biden, on speakerphone in meetings with overseas business partners.
President Biden has denied participating in business calls with his son. However, congressional investigators say Archer will testify he witnessed Joe Biden joining the calls as many as two dozen times.
One such incident came in 2017 during a WhatsApp discussion with the CEO of a Chinese financial firm.
Asked if he was with Hunter during that session, Biden shouted “No!” to a reporter. But new reports show a photo taken that day of Hunter sitting with two women in the president’s 1967 Corvette in front of Biden’s house. | US News Ranks Top Cities for Retirement
