IRS Ends ‘Unannounced’ Visits to Homes
The IRS has ended its decade-old program of making unannounced visits to homes to collect unfiled tax returns and money and will instead mail letters to people to schedule meetings.
Tax officials say they changed the controversial policy to combat scammers who impersonate IRS agents and for the safety of real agents who have been threatened both on social media and in person by surprised homeowners.
The policy came under fire from Republicans after journalist Matt Taibbi received an unannounced visit from IRS agents on the same day he testified in Congress about Twitter colluding with government agencies. | Woman Admits Lying About Toddler, Kidnapping
Carlee Russell, the Alabama woman who disappeared for two days and then reappeared claiming she was kidnapped after chasing a toddler on the highway, admitted she made up the whole thing.
Russell apologized in a statement, but police are weighing charges for the false 911 call, which made national headlines and set off a two-day search.
Police said the woman was never missing but they still have no detail on where she went, or why, during those two days. | Biden’s Dog Loves Biting Secret Service Agents
President Biden’s German shepherd Commander has bitten Secret Service officers ten times in four months, sending at least one to the hospital. One agent reportedly used a steel cart to protect himself from attack.
This is Biden’s second dog since becoming President. The first, Major, was ousted from the White House for similar aggressive behavior.
Commander’s behavior came to light through a lawsuit filed by conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch. The group received nearly 200 pages of Secret Service records detailing Commander’s reign of terror.
