Sen. Vance Pushes Bill to Ban Mask Mandates
Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance said he would introduce a bill Tuesday to stop any federal official, including the president, from implementing a mask mandate through the end of 2024.
Vance’s bill, titled the Freedom to Breathe Act, would prevent the government from requiring masks for airplane flights, public transit, or school, and it would also bar school and transportation officials from refusing service to anyone not wearing a mask.
The move comes in the wake of several facilities reimposing mask mandates. President Biden is now wearing a mask because Jill Biden has a mild case of Covid, despite having been double-vaccinated and twice boosted. | United Snafu Halts Flights for an Hour
United Airlines asked the FAA to issue a ground stop Tuesday that lasted an hour while the airline struggled with a system-wide technology slowdown.
Hundreds of flights were delayed and several were canceled through the morning. United blamed the problem on a software update that slowed its computer systems to a crawl.
The airline’s stock dropped 2.5% during the day, and federal officials said they’d be investigating the incident. United said no cybersecurity issues were involved. | ‘Top 100 Places to Live’ List Cuts Out Big Cities
People seeking the best place to live while avoiding big cities have a new interactive guide that ranks only towns with a population between 75,000 and 500,000.
The Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S. list offers users a tool to choose their own criteria for ranking the 100 cities by factors such as amenities, education, affordability, healthcare, and so on.
No. 1 on the overall list is John’s Creek, GA. If ranked by safety, Rochester Hills, MI, is No. 1, and ranked by cost of living, the top city is Des Moines, IA, where the median home value is $177,000. You can sort the list here.
