Good Morning! On this date in 1854, the Republican Party was founded in Ripon, Wisconsin, by former members of the Whig Party who opposed the spread of slavery into the western territories. The elephant symbol followed decades later. (Why an Elephant?)
The baseball season kicks off in the U.S. next Thursday, but the official opening day is actually today in Seoul, South Korea, for some business reason or other. Still, the Padres’ Yu Darvish will take the mound against the Dodgers in front of screaming Korean fans, and we’re just happy to see the 2024 season get underway.

Supreme Court Allows Texas To Arrest Illegal Migrants
The Supreme Court on Tuesday overturned its stay and voted 6-3 to allow Texas to enforce its law allowing the state to arrest illegal immigrants.
On Monday, Justice Sam Alito blocked enforcement of the law in an administrative stay until the full court could act. On Tuesday, the full court surprised officials by allowing the law to go into effect immediately, pending a full review by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
The three liberal justices issued public dissents from the 6-3 decision, saying it would cause enforcement chaos. The court said it could revisit the issue quickly if the Fifth Circuit doesn’t decide soon.
The Justice Department says the law is unconstitutional because authority over immigration status belongs to the federal government. Texas has argued that its borders are being overrun because the government isn’t enforcing the law.
Housing Prices Far Outstrip Decades of Inflation
U.S. home prices rose 2.4 times the inflation rate over the past 60 years, meaning a $500,000 house would cost $177,000 if homes had just increased at the same rate as other prices.
More simply, prices are ten times higher today than in 1963, but housing prices are 24 times higher. Experts say the added costs are due to a housing supply shortage, the high cost of land, the increased average size of homes, and various zoning restrictions.
A Kansas man set a world record by catching a 164-pound, 13-ounce paddlefish at the Lake of the Ozarks on his first “snagging” trip. Here’s a photo.
Paddlefish are considered “living dinosaurs” and are prized for their size, uniqueness, and black-market caviar. To catch paddlefish, fishermen drag hooks through the water in a technique called snagging.
Chad Williams of Olathe, Kansas, snagged the giant five-foot fish early in his chartered fishing trip and spent 10 minutes reeling the record-breaker in. “As soon as it hit the boat, everybody’s jaws dropped,” said the charter captain.
Williams shared the paddlefish meat with the fishing group and preserved the head to mount on his wall.

Do you want to hike in your 70s? Travel in your 80s? We can’t reverse aging, but we can age better. Scientists have discovered a longevity molecule, Urolithin A, that restores and renews mitochondria—aka your cellular powerhouses. Meet Mitopure® by Timeline Nutrition, the only clinically validated, highly pure Urolithin A supplement.
Did you know that ~90% of the food you eat and the air you breathe is used by your mitochondria to produce your body’s energy? By our 30s, our mitochondria can become less efficient, leading to a reduction in energy production. But there’s a way to counter this natural decline. When taken daily, Mitopure renews your mitochondria, increasing cellular energy. The results? Studies found participants saw muscle strength and endurance increase without any changes to exercise routines.
But Mitopure® is about more than today’s energy boost. It’s about transforming how you age and by supporting optimal cellular function, Mitopure® helps you maintain an active, energetic lifestyle, ensuring that your later years are just as fulfilling as your younger days.
