Good Morning! On this date in 1840, Britain issued the first postage stamp in history, the “Penny Black.” It bore the image of Queen Victoria and was an immediate hit, with 70 million letters sent over the next year. (See Stamp)
It’s finally May. A lot of good things happen in May: Mother’s Day, the Indianapolis 500, and the Kentucky Derby. But did you know May is considered the luckiest month for weddings? Nearly twenty years after his own May wedding, one member of The Flyover team still thinks it’s true.

Anti-Israel Protests Intensify
Anti-Israel protests continued on university campuses across the country Tuesday, leading to a building takeover, numerous arrests, class cancellations, and threats of expulsions.
Police began arresting protestors in Chapel Hill yesterday at the University of North Carolina. Altercations were reported as several protestors were placed in handcuffs and at least one carried out by their arms and legs.
Protestors at Columbia took over a university building and barricaded it. Several windows were broken, and banners with pro-Palestinian messages were displayed.
University officials announced they would begin to expel protesting students. The Biden administration said they were monitoring the spreading unrest. “That is not an example of peaceful protests,” a spokesman said.
Polls: Confidence in Economy Falling
New polls conducted by Gallup and the Conference Board indicate that Americans are losing confidence in the economy.
Gallup’s latest Economic Confidence Index showed consumer faith in the economy fell by nine points between March and April, the first decline in seven months. See Gallup results and charts here.
Similar research by the Conference Board found that expectations for income, business, and the job market fell to their lowest levels since July 2022, partly due to concerns about high prices for food and gas.
Sources say the Drug Enforcement Administration is expected to approve shifting cannabis from the most strict Schedule 1, which includes drugs such as heroin, and instead move it to Schedule III, which would recognize medical uses for marijuana.
The shift would allow researchers to study marijuana’s effects with far fewer restrictions. Schedule III drugs are still regulated, and the move wouldn’t legalize marijuana for recreational use.
