Editor’s Note: Yesterday, we reported that the Phillies had won the National League Pennant—which wasn’t true. This was the biggest strikeout we’ve had at The Flyover; we accidentally published a placeholder story instead of the edited version. We apologize for causing confusion, along with the panic we may have induced for fans of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team that really did win National League last night. Sorry!
House GOP Nominates Mike Johnson
The House Speaker race was back to ground zero Tuesday night, as the third nominee, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, proved unable to come up with enough votes and withdrew just hours after being nominated.
At least 25 Republicans said they wouldn’t vote for Emmer, and he could afford to lose only four votes. He follows previous nominees Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan in failing to win enough support.
Last night, the GOP conference held another candidate forum to hear from six candidates, and it nominated Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA). After the vote (in which he receieved 128 votes, far more than any other candidate), Johnson said he’s “very confident” he can get the 217 votes he needs on the House floor.
Preliminary details were first reported in July, just before PublicSq went public. It’s valued at more than $1 million and represents PublicSq’s first major marketing push since going public.

Diamondbacks, Rangers Set For World Series
The Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks will face off in the World Series after Arizona beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 Tuesday night in the deciding game for the National League pennant.
It’s the Rangers’ third visit to the World Series, most recently in 2011. They’re one of six baseball teams that have never won a Series title. The Diamondbacks won their only World Series in 2001 against the New York Yankees.
The Series begins this Friday at the Rangers’ home field in Arlington, Texas. It’ll be televised on Fox, and you can see the full schedule here.
