Good Morning! On this day in 1804, founding father Alexander Hamilton died after a duel with Aaron Burr. Hamilton’s legacy lives on in popular culture through a hit Broadway musical and even a TV commercial for milk.
On days when the news is a bit grim, there’s always one antidote: an adorable baby animal. Check out the video of this tiny baby otter nursed to health by rescuers and start your day with a smile.

Biden Goes Live in Rare Press Conference
President Biden defended his candidacy and his ability to do the job in a rare live press conference Thursday. Immediately after it ended, two more Democratic congressmen called on him to withdraw from the race.
Biden made several flubs, one right at the beginning when he referred to VP Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.” Earlier in the day he introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin.” Video is here.
The President told reporters he didn’t trust the accuracy of current polls showing him trailing in the race but said delegates to the Democratic convention next month were “free to do whatever they want” in choosing a candidate. You can watch the entire press conference here.
Afterward, Reps. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) and Scott Peters (D-Calif.) both asked Biden to end his campaign. That brings to 16 the total number of Democratic legislators on record seeking his withdrawal.
Russian Assassination Plot Foiled
The United States and Germany reportedly foiled a Russian plot to assassinate Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, a major German arms manufacturer supplying crucial weapons to Ukraine.
This plot, uncovered by U.S. intelligence services, is part of Russia’s broader ongoing “hybrid war of aggression,” targeting defense industry executives across Europe.
Rheinmetall, Germany’s largest producer of 155mm artillery shells, has been supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts under a €5 billion contract.
Russia is also strongly suspected of planning sabotage operations against U.S. military sites and is believed to have hired proxies to carry out an arson attack on a factory run by German arms company Diehl in May.
Chinese Ships Spotted Near Alaska
Four Chinese naval vessels were spotted by U.S. Coast Guard ships this weekend inside the U.S. exclusive economic zone of the Bering Sea, just north of Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.
The incident, which represented a rare incursion by the Chinese so close to American waters, occurred this past weekend but was publicly reported Thursday.
A Coast Guard cutter on a routine patrol identified three Chinese ships about 124 miles north of the Amchitka Pass. A fourth Chinese ship was spotted 84 miles north of the Amukta Pass.
Officials said all four Chinese ships were being closely watched by U.S. forces to ensure there were no “disruptions.” Analysts said the Chinese were testing to see how how the U.S. would react.
