RFK Jr. Doesn’t Qualify For Debate

Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will not participate in next week’s presidential debate in Atlanta after failing to meet state ballot and polling benchmarks.

CNN, the network hosting the June 27 debate, required candidates to have at least four qualifying national polls with at least 15% support and ballot access in enough states to potentially win a majority in the Electoral College—270 electoral votes.

Kennedy received at least 15% in three qualifying polls and was on the ballot in six states, making him eligible for only 89 electoral college votes.

In a statement, Kennedy described his exclusion as “undemocratic, un-American, and cowardly.” Kennedy filed a legal complaint to the Federal Election Commission.

Senate Proposes Draft for Women

A proposal by Senate Democrats to require women to register for the draft ignited protests from Republicans, complicating the passage of the annual National Defense Authorization Act.

The proposal, which Congress rejected before, was added to the defense bill in the Armed Services Committee, and while it’s not expected to pass, it’s likely to delay the bill.

Senator Josh Hawley has opposed the provision, calling it “insane,” stating that women shouldn’t be forced to serve if they don’t want to, and criticized Democrats for using the military for social experiments.

Currently, only men aged 18-25 must register with the Selective Service, with options for deferments or exemptions if drafted.

Actor Donald Sutherland Dies at 88

Donald Sutherland, the iconic Canadian actor who appeared in over 200 movies, passed away on Thursday at the age of 88.

His long career, spanning over 60 years, included memorable performances in classics like the original film version of “M.A.S.H.,” “Klute,” “Ordinary People,” and more recently, “The Hunger Games” saga. You can see his life in pictures here.

Sutherland’s achievements include an honorary Oscar for his contributions to cinema, an Emmy, and two Golden Globe Awards. He was often noted as one of the best actors never to receive a competitive Academy Award nomination.

He is survived by his five children, including actor Kiefer Sutherland.
