SCOTUS Bans Guns for Domestic Abuse Suspects
The Supreme Court upheld a 30-year-old law on Friday that bars people with restraining orders for domestic abuse from owning firearms. Chief Justice John Roberts described the ruling as “common sense.”
In an 8-1 decision, the Justices found that historically, gun laws often included provisions preventing individuals “who threaten physical harm to others from misusing firearms.”
Justice Clarence Thomas was the lone dissenter, saying there wasn’t a “single historical regulation” that justified the ban.
California Mayor Under Federal Investigation
Oakland, California Mayor Sheng Thao hired a criminal defense attorney on Friday, one day after FBI agents raided her home as part of a multi-agency corruption investigation.
Federal authorities conducted a raid on a home belonging to Thao Thursday morning as part of a public corruption case, with the FBI, IRS, and US Postal Service working together. Agents were seen carrying boxes out of the home.
Agents also searched the offices of California Waste Solutions and the homes of at least two California Waste Solutions employees.
Thao’s lawyer said she had nothing to hide and would cooperate with the investigation.
Report: Average Home Prices are Up 6%

The most expensive housing markets in California are San Jose, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Oxnard. Despite a 21% increase, the average home price in Wichita, Kansas, at $259,264, is still more than $1 million lower than the average of $1,502,362 in San Jose.
Not all metro areas experienced dramatic increases. Markets in Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee saw home prices drop. In Cape Coral, Florida, homes are more than 5% cheaper than last year.
