U.S. Military Hunting for Chinese Malware
The U.S. military is investigating Chinese malware it believes is hidden in networks controlling the infrastructure that powers American military bases around the world.
The discovery of the malware last month resulted in a series of White House meetings with top military and intelligence officials worried that the Chinese code could affect water systems, pipelines, radar, and aviation systems.
One congressional source described it as a “ticking time bomb” that China could set off in case of a conflict with the U.S. | Congress, Courts Battle Over Authority
Democrats attacked Justice Samuel Alito this weekend for saying that Congress has no authority under the Constitution to regulate the Supreme Court, including Congress’ current effort to create a code of ethics for the court.
Angered, Democrats fired back in tweets and interviews. Sen. Chris Murphy noted that Alito’s seat “exists only because of an act of Congress.”
The Senate Judiciary Committee last week voted along party lines to approve ethics reform legislation, but the bill has little chance of passage through the House and Senate. | Ledecky Takes Swimming Title
Katie Ledecky surpassed Michael Phelps as the world’s most decorated swimmer by winning her 16th world title in Japan this weekend, one more than Phelps had in his career.
Ledecky, 26, also became the first swimmer ever to win six gold medals in the same swimming event at the world championships. In the event this weekend, she beat the runner-up by a full 17 seconds.
She has already won seven gold and three silver medals in the past three Olympics and will compete next year for the U.S. in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
