Happy Saturday! On this date in 1917, the United States formally declared war against Germany and entered WWI. The war began in the summer of 1914, and Britain, France, and Russia welcomed the declaration as they needed American troops and supplies for the Allied war effort.
It starting to feel like Spring! The Editor has been slaving away at an overly-ambitious gardening project, including an indoor seedling-starting station, grow lights and all. Let us know if you’re working on your own garden project today, and check out this great video on starting seeds indoors, if you have a green thumb (or wish it was a bit greener).

Friday Morning Earthquake Felt by Millions
An estimated 42 million people between the D.C. area and the New York-Canada border felt Friday morning’s 4.8-magnitude earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Officials determined Lebanon, New Jersey, to be the epicenter of the seismic event that started at 10:23 a.m. (EST) and struck 4.7 kilometers below the surface. Four aftershocks followed in the next five hours.
Homes were damaged in New Jersey, and air traffic at John F. Kennedy, Newark Liberty, and LaGuardia airports was affected. New York City tunnels, bridges, buildings, and subways were also assessed for damage.
Officials believe the earthquake to be one of the largest on the East Coast in the last century.
A Rare Total Solar Eclipse Monday
A rare total solar eclipse will move across North America on Monday, giving millions an opportunity to experience temporarily darkened skies as the moon blocks the face of the sun.
The eclipse’s path is expected to cast the moon’s shadow over Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Other states will be treated to a partial solar eclipse. You can see a map here.
Experts advise those viewing the phenomenon to wear special eclipse glasses, make and use an indirect viewing device like a pinhole projector, or view live footage on a screen.
The next total solar eclipse will occur in 2026. It will mostly pass over the Arctic Ocean, with some visibility in Greenland, Iceland, Portugal, and northern Spain.
New Shows and Movies to Stream
After a slowdown of new content in late March, streamers have put together an impressive list of new shows and movies to carry us into May.
Apple TV has two solid entries with the noir detective series Sugar led by Colin Farrell, and Manhunt, a historical drama about the hunt for presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth. For those that prefer music history, Hulu has a documentary about Brian Jones, one of the founding members of the Rolling Stones. Instrumental in the band’s early success, Jones found himself out of the band days before his tragic death.
The start of Spring has the Flyover staff talking about our favorite baseball movies, and an impromptu poll produced the following movie suggestions: The Natural, Field of Dreams, Moneyball, Major League, and Fever Pitch—all of which are available on Amazon Prime.
