Israel, Hamas Swap Hostages & Prisoners

Hamas has released 24 hostages held in Gaza, and Israel released 39 Palestinian prisoners.

It was the first round of an agreement that involves the release of 50 hostages from Hamas and 150 prisoners from Israel, and it came in the quiet of the first ceasefire since the war in Gaza began. The temporary cessation will end after four days, although the Israelis have offered to extend the ceasefire by one day for every ten additional hostages released.

Israel had made it clear that it intends to resume its military operations after the ceasefire, and it’s warning residents not to return to northern Gaza—the site of Israel’s ground offensive.

Derek Chauvin Stabbed in Prison

Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, has been stabbed in prison.

According to a report, Chauvin was stabbed by an inmate and suffered serious injuries. The prison has not commented on his condition, although a source said that a different inmate was transported to a hospital after the incident.

The attack happened at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tuscon, AZ—a facility with staffing shortages and recent security issues.
