Welcome to the weekend! On this day in 1879, Thomas Edison was in his laboratory in New Jersey, working on a “short project” to create an incandescent light bulb that burned longer and drew less power than the existing model. He hit on the working design on Oct 21st.

House GOP Removes Jordan as Nominee

Jim Jordan is out as the GOP nominee for Speaker of the House.

After twenty-five Republicans voted against Jordan on the House floor Friday, the GOP conference decided by secret ballot to remove his nomination.

It’s unclear who will emerge as the new frontrunner for the Speakership—a post now empty since October 3rd—but several prominent Republicans are now throwing their hat in the ring, including Rep. Kevin Hern, Byron Donalds, and likely Tom Emmer.

Two Americans Released by Hamas

A mother and daughter were released by Hamas terrorists yesterday after being held hostage since October 7th.

Judith and Natalie Raanan are from Illinois and were in Israel visiting family during the attack. Both appear in good health, but little is known about what they experienced while being held captive. They are in Tel Aviv reuniting with family and are expected back in the US next week.

Hamas, which killed 1,400 people during its surprise attack in southern Israel, said it released the prisoners “…for humanitarian reasons, and to prove to the American people and the world that the claims made by Biden and his fascist administration are false and baseless.”

Tech Titan Outed as FBI Informant

Tech investor Peter Thiel became a “confidential human source” for the FBI in 2021, according to a source.

Thiel is known for being a co-founder of Paypal, a successful venture capitalist, and a major GOP donor—and now he’s been identified as an FBI informant. His value to the FBI excludes his political contacts, according to the source, and is focused rather on illicit foreign business influence in the American technology world.

The report suggests that Charles Johnson, a long-time associate of Thiel and the person who allegedly connected him with the FBI, was upset with Theil for not investing in Johnson’s startups and outed him as an informant in retaliation.
