Hunter Biden Visit Upends Contempt Hearing
Two House committees recommended that Hunter Biden be held in contempt, but only after he surprised Congress by personally showing up for the vote, throwing the hearing into chaos.
Rep. Nancy Mace, seeing Biden in the audience, called him the “epitome of white privilege.” On video, Mace asked what he was afraid of and then said, “You have no balls.”
In the hallway afterward, Biden was besieged by reporters. One video shows someone calling out the question: “What kind of crack do you normally smoke, Mr. Biden?”
The committee reports recommending contempt will move now to the full House for a vote. If it passes, it would be referred to the Justice Department for potential prosecution.
U.S. Ships Hit With Large Attack
U.S. and British naval forces battled the largest attack to date on merchant shipping by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, shooting down 21 drones and missiles aimed at 50 freighters in the area. No casualties were reported.
British leaders called the situation “unsustainable” and hinted that the U.S.-led coalition would take aggressive action, including strikes in Yemen. “Watch this space,” said UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps.
The Pentagon said four coalition warships were deployed to the area. They reported assaults from rocket fire and armed drones. It was the first large-scale attack since the U.S. built a coalition to protect shipping in the Red Sea.
Alabama Coach Nick Saban to Retire
University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban, winner of six national college championships at Alabama and one of the greatest college coaches of all time, is set to retire after 17 years.
Rumors of Saban’s retirement have swirled for years, but the news still came as a shock in Alabama where the coach, 72, seemed like a permanent institution.
He leaves behind an extraordinary record of success. His Crimson Tide teams twice finished undefeated; they won the SEC championship nine times. He produced 44 first-round NFL draft picks along the way, a record no other coach has approached.
