The Supreme Court heard arguments Wednesday on a case that could sharply curtail federal regulatory powers. The case involves fishing regulations, but the justices appeared inclined toward a broad review of federal power.
The core issue is a 40-year-old legal doctrine referred to as “Chevron deference,” which calls for courts to defer to agency expertise when regulations are expanded without input from Congress.
During questioning Wednesday on fishing regulations, several of the more conservative justices indicated they would prefer agencies to have explicit Congressional approval before unilaterally expanding their oversight.
SpaceX Plans Manned Launch Today
SpaceX plans to launch a four-person crew to the International Space Station today, after a one-day delay. If launch preparations go as scheduled, the blast-off should be available to watch live at 4:15 p.m. ET here.
Today’s mission is SpaceX’s third manned launch, a private-industry flight for Axiom Space, dubbed the Ax-3 mission. The crew will spend two weeks aboard the space stations conducting more than 30 experiments.
The crew is the first all-European crew to go to the space station. NASA hopes the private missions will free up federal funding for its government-backed manned moon missions later this decade.
