Question: Where did an Air Force accident cause two hydrogen bombs to drop on American soil?

Answer: The bombs dropped near Goldsboro, North Carolina on Jan. 23, 1961. The accident was caused when a refueling leak caused a B-52 bomber to break up in mid-air. Three crew members were killed, but the two H-bombs didn’t explode. One opened its parachute and got hung up in a tree, never hitting the ground. The other buried itself deep in the earth. It remains unclear how close that one came to detonating.
