Suspect Held in CEO Murder
Luigi Mangione, designated “a person of interest” in the Manhattan murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was taken into custody in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Monday after being spotted at a McDonald’s.
Mangione was recognized by a fast-food employee and was arrested by local police on a firearm charge. He was carrying a 9mm ghost gun, a silencer, a U.S. passport, and four fake IDs, including one matching a New York City hostel registry.
He also had a three-page handwritten manifesto that included grievances with the US healthcare system, a document that spoke to the suspect’s “motivation and mindset,” officials said.
Mangione grew up in Maryland, where he attended an elite private school before graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering. He has not been charged in Thompson’s murder.

Merger Creates World’s Largest Ad Agency
Global media giant Omnicom is set to acquire Interpublic Group in a stock-for-stock deal that will create the world’s largest ad agency with a combined valuation of nearly $30 billion.
The merger comes as the advertising experts behind the Got Milk? and Mastercard’s Priceless campaigns face increasing competition from sophisticated AI platforms that offer more targeted advertising solutions.
Omnicom is the third-largest advertising holding company in the world by revenue, with reported revenue of $14.7 billion in 2023, followed by Interpublic at $10.9 billion. The new company will keep the Omnicom name and trade under the “OMC” ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange.
Shares of Interpublic jumped 10% Monday, while Omnicom’s stock fell more than 6%.

Penny Not Guilty in NY Subway Death
A Manhattan jury on Monday found Daniel Penny not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of Jordan Neely, a homeless man who Penny placed in a chokehold onboard a New York City subway car last year.
The case drew national attention due to racial implications and a video of Penny, a former Marine, placing Neely in a chokehold after Neely entered a train, shouting death threats while under the influence of a synthetic drug.
Monday’s decision followed five days of deliberations after the jury deadlocked on the more serious manslaughter charge, leading the judge to dismiss it.
The attorney for the Neely family said they will move forward with a lawsuit filed against Penny last week.
