FBI Director in Hot Water
The House Oversight Committee says it will vote Thursday on whether to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt for refusing to turn over a confidential document subpoenaed by the committee.
The document is a whistleblower letter that Rep. James Comer, chair of the committee, says ties President Joe Biden to a money-for-access scheme when he was vice president.
The FBI balked at turning over the letter but brought a redacted copy to Congress Monday where key legislators could review it privately. Comer has said that he’ll seek contempt charges unless the FBI complies fully with the subpoena.

Walgreens Locks Up Its Products
Walgreens has redesigned a store in Chicago’s South Loop to offer only two aisles of merchandise for browsing, with everything else behind counters to deter theft.
Shoppers will use digital kiosks to order the merchandise they want from behind the counters. The employees do the “shopping,” and checkout is self-serve, eliminating almost all human contact.
Walgreens says this is a one-store test of a new shopping “experience,” but its goal is to battle the shoplifting epidemic that is causing many big-city retailers to close their doors.

Apple Unveils Long-Awaited Headset
Apple announced its long-awaited Vision Pro headset, a high-end set of computerized goggles that lets users watch movies, play video games, and even handle e-mail.
Though anticipated as a boon for virtual reality, Apple barely mentioned VR as an application. Instead, it’s meant as a new style of computer, and it already has a major media partner: Disney+ content will be available on Vision Pro at launch, expected early next year.
The biggest surprise of the day, however, was the price tag of $3,500. It was a bit of a shock to investors hoping for a new mass-market success like the iPhone.
