Good morning! Today in 1776, Richard Henry Lee proposed the first congressional proposal for independence from Britain. The Lee Resolution led directly to the Declaration of Independence and a new nation.
Today we’re talking about angry GOP House members striking back for last week’s debt deal, the shocking merger between two golf leagues at each other’s throats, and a new Father’s Day TV spot from Bud Light showcasing family values.

GOP Conservatives Hit McCarthy with Protest
Blowback against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy hit the gas as a dozen conservative Republicans joined with Democrats to derail bills meant to block bans on gas stoves.
The unusual protest caught House leaders by surprise. The conservative group supports the anti-regulation legislation they voted against but wanted to send McCarthy a message about their unhappiness with the debt ceiling compromise.
The protesting Republicans said they hadn’t decided yet whether to call a vote to oust the speaker altogether, but tension remained. “I think we have some unresolved issues from last week,” said Rep. Scott Perry.

Migrant Issue Spreads Coast-to-Coast
From coast to coast, tensions over migrants pouring over the border are heating up. In New York, Mayor Eric Adams is offering to pay city residents directly for housing migrants with nowhere to stay.
In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom blamed Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis for flying migrants into the state. Newsom tweeted, “Kidnapping charges?” while California officials investigate the possibility of criminal charges.
DeSantis, meanwhile, won a border battle in federal court when judges refused to allow the Biden administration to release migrants into the U.S. on an unsupervised “parole” basis. The White House is considering an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court.

PGA Shocks Sports World with LIV Golf Merger
The PGA Tour will merge with its arch-rival LIV Golf into a new for-profit company, shocking professional golfers, who learned the news via Twitter Tuesday morning, and ending all litigation between the two tours.
Saudi-backed LIV seemed to come out the winner in the merger, with a key Saudi executive taking over as chairman of the new entity when the merger is complete.
PGA leaders immediately came under fire for the agreement, with many — including many golfers who gave up literal fortunes to remain with the PGA — accusing them of hypocrisy, given how vigorously they criticized the Saudi involvement in LIV.
