Good morning! Today marks a rare double anniversary that frames all of World War I. On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, lighting the spark that led to war. Five years later, on June 28, 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed, signaling the war’s formal end.
In today’s Flyover, we’re discussing the tragic murder-suicide of racing driver Jimmie Johnson’s in-laws, the lowest favorability ratings ever for a vice-president, and the winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog contest.

State Legislatures Lose Election Authority
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that state legislatures don’t have the authority to set election rules without oversight from state courts.
The decision undercut an argument by some states— this case involved North Carolina — that legislatures are the final authority on issues of gerrymandering and the voting process. Instead, courts will still have the final say.
The 6-3 decision was written by Chief Justice John Roberts, joined by the three liberal justices and two conservatives, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. | NASCAR Star’s Family Hit by Murder-Suicide
NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson’s in-laws and their grandson were found dead Monday night in an apparent murder-suicide at their home in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
Police believe Johnson’s mother-in-law killed her husband and her 11-year-old grandson before killing herself.
Johnson, a seven-time winner of the NASCAR Cup, has withdrawn from Sunday’s Cup Series street race in Chicago, NASCAR’s first foray into street course racing. | Slumping Bud Light Offers Free Beer for July 4
Bud Light sales were down 28.5 percent as of June 17. It’s the steepest decline recorded during the current backlash, and it’s a sign that customers are still angry about the promotion with a trans influencer.
In response, Anheuser-Busch is offering $15 rebates on a 15-pack of Bud beer. In places where a 15-pack sells for $15 or less, that could mean free beer for July 4.
The company has tripled promotion spending for the summer to win back drinkers, and this week it released a new ad (Watch Here) featuring old-fashioned summer fun. What they haven’t done, critics say, is apologize.
