Fallout Grows from Baltimore Bridge Collapse
The fallout from the shocking collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge, closing one of the busiest ports in America, spread throughout the Eastern seaboard Tuesday while rescue efforts continued for missing victims.
Two people were rescued by Tuesday afternoon, but rescuers were still searching for six others who fell into the frigid water after a container ship hit the bridge—causing the structure to collapse almost instantly, as captured here on video
President Biden said the federal government would pay to rebuild the bridge, but in the meantime, shipping into the Port of Baltimore is stopped. Plans to divert cargo shipments to other East Coast ports are underway, but cargo delays are expected.
Trump Media Has a Big Debut
Trump Media & Technology Group stock, on its first day of trading on the NASDAQ exchange as DJT, closed at $57.99 per share, a 16% gain from Monday.
Overall, the company ended with a market value of $7.8 billion. Former President Donald Trump’s stake is valued at $4.6 billion, though his shares are said to be locked up for six months.
Early trading had shares as high as $75.21, nearly a 50% gain, before settling back by the time the market closed. Analysts say many investors in DJT are small-time traders pushing the stock up for short-term profit and support of Trump himself, and not professional long-term investors.
RFK Jr. Picks Nicole Shanahan for VP
Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. named Nicole Shanahan, a lawyer, philanthropist, and campaign donor, as his running mate Tuesday.
Kennedy said Shanahan understood technology, would protect the environment, and provide a voice for millennials and Gen Z.
Shanahan, a California-based attorney, is the ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin and has never run for a political office. Until recently, she was a Democratic donor but said the party “lost its way” and suffered from “elitism.”
