Good Morning! On this day in 1997, the U.S. Air Force published a report debunking the 1947 Roswell UFO incident, claiming it was a high-altitude surveillance balloon, not an extraterrestrial spacecraft.
Today’s Flyover includes news that U.S. athletes are bringing their own air-conditioning with them to the Summer Olympics in Paris because the French won’t supply it. As Americans who can’t imagine getting through the summer without A/C, we fully support our athletes.

Mass Shooting at Arkansas Store
Four people were killed and 14 others were injured in a mass shooting at Mad Butcher, a local grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, a small town about 65 miles south of Little Rock.
Police say 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey of New Edinburg opened fire at the store from the parking lot, riddling cars with bullet holes as panicked bystanders ducked and scrambled for cover amid a barrage of gunfire.
Posey, who engaged in a shootout with police before being injured and arrested, now faces multiple charges, including four counts of capital murder.
Among the four people killed in the shooting was Callie Weems, a 23-year-old nurse who was shot while giving aid to other victims. Two police officers were among the 14 injured.
Trump Says He’s Decided on His VP
Former President Donald Trump told reporters that he’s decided on his running mate for the 2024 presidential election, but “nobody knows” his choice yet.
Trump senior adviser Brian Hughes stated that the campaign’s top criterion for selecting a running mate “is a strong leader who will make a great President for eight years after (Trump’s) next four-year term concludes.”
Sources familiar with the selection process have indicated that some top contenders include North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
U.S. Olympics Team Tells France to Cool It
The U.S. Olympic team will bring their own air conditioning units to Paris, despite French plans to reduce carbon emissions by using cooling pipes and fans to keep temperatures below 80 degrees.
This decision undermines the sustainability initiatives championed by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, as AC use is uncommon in Europe, with less than 10% of Paris households equipped with units.
Nonetheless, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee emphasized the necessity of air conditioning for athlete performance amid growing worries about extreme heat during the July games.
