Good Morning! On this date in 1866, the U.S. Congress introduced the modern nickel to counteract the hoarding of gold and silver coins during the Civil War. The nickel is crafted from cupronickel, an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel.
Today is “National Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day,” and here at The Flyover, we were reminded of the many random acts of kindness by our neighbors. From dog-sitting to bringing in the trash cans from the curb, good neighbors make for an even better community.

Biden, Trump Agree to Two Debates
President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump agreed Wednesday to two debates, the first scheduled for June 27 on CNN, and the second on Sept. 10 on ABC.
The decision to work directly with the TV networks bypasses the traditional Commission on Presidential Debates schedule, with Biden’s team criticizing the commission for being “unable or unwilling to enforce the rules” during previous debates.
CNN said the first debate will be held in its Atlanta studio and no audience will be present. Because of the timing, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the third-party candidate, wouldn’t be on enough state ballots to qualify to participate.

Slovakian Prime Minister Shot
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, a pro-Russian, anti-European Union populist, was shot and gravely injured Wednesday in an assassination attempt that shocked the 30-year-old Slovak Republic.
Police arrested a suspect in the shooting, which occurred while Fico was greeting the public after a government meeting in Handlova, about 110 miles from the capital, Bratislava. There’s a video here.
Fico, a veteran politician, had already served as prime minister twice and was elected a third time last October as part of a deal with two other political parties. He was in surgery Wednesday in life-threatening condition.

Netflix to Offer Christmas NFL Games
Netflix reached an agreement with the NFL Wednesday to stream two games on Christmas Day this season and at least one game on the holiday each of the next two years.
The deal, believed to be $75 million per game, will give the streaming platform national broadcasting rights to the games, with the NFL providing access to broadcast TV in local team markets and on the NFL+ mobile app.
Netflix has previously aired one-off events in tennis and golf, but the NFL games have the potential to draw both advertisers and subscribers. The three Christmas Day NFL games last year averaged 28.68 million viewers.
