Good morning! On this date in 1895, Annie Londonderry arrived in Chicago to complete the first round-the-world trip by a woman on a bicycle. It took 15 months, involved a lot of ships, and won her a $10,000 prize.

FDA Approves New Targeted Covid Vaccines
New vaccines targeting the omicron variant of Covid were approved Monday by the Food and Drug Administration and could be available as early as next week.
The new vaccines still need approval from the Center for Disease Control, which is set to issue recommendations today on who most needs the updated vaccination. Officials are positioning it as an annual shot similar to a flu shot.
Unlike previous boosters, the new vaccine isn’t made from components of the original Covid variants. It’s designed instead for the specific omicron variant, which accounts for about 21% of U.S. cases. | Vast Deposit of Lithium Discovered near Nevada
One of the world’s largest lithium deposits has been discovered in an extinct volcano along the Nevada-Oregon border, with huge implications for the transition to electric cars.
Scientists estimate 20-40 million metric tons of lithium could be at the site, dwarfing deposits in Chile and Australia. Lithium is a crucial component for EV batteries, and the new supply could meet global battery demand for decades.
Automakers have been racing to lock in supplies of lithium. The mineral is on track to triple output over the next decade, but demand for electric vehicles threatened to exceed supply. The new find will change that calculation. | New Mexico Gun-Control Order Draws Fire
Both Democrats and Republicans attacked New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham after she temporarily suspended gun carry laws in the state under an emergency health order.
Even gun-control advocates were critical of the order, which declared gun violence a public health emergency requiring a ban on open and concealed carry. Both parties said that didn’t justify suspending a constitutional right.
Two GOP legislators in New Mexico called for Lujan Grisham’s impeachment, and the National Association for Gun Rights filed a lawsuit to overturn the order.
