House Launches Formal Impeachment Inquiry
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, citing the need to investigate allegations of “abuse of power, obstruction and corruption.”
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer will lead the inquiry, a first step toward deciding whether to bring impeachment charges. House GOP leaders will meet tomorrow to lay out their latest findings and the status of the Biden investigation.
The White House called the inquiry “a wild goose chase,” and House Democrats said they would defend Biden “until the very end.” | Death Toll Could Hit 10,000 in Libya Flooding
Massive flooding in Libya has left more than 5,000 dead and at least 10,000 missing after dams collapsed and whole neighborhoods were swept away by Mediterranean storm Daniel.
Floods wiped out a quarter of the coastal city of Derna, with many families being washed into the sea. Aid in the form of rescue boats, generators, and food was being rushed to Libya’s aid.
The U.S. Special Envoy for Libya issued an official declaration of humanitarian need, saying the order would free up funding from the United States to support relief efforts. | Aaron Rodgers’ Injury Ends His Season
It’s been confirmed that superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon on live TV Monday night, putting him out for the season and abruptly ending his much-anticipated role as savior of the New York Jets.
The injury came on the fourth play of “Monday Night Football,” less than 10 minutes into the game. Announcers, including Peyton and Eli Manning, were stunned at the sudden turnabout (See Video). The Jets still won the game in overtime.
Rodgers, 39, was the longtime quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. He moved to the Jets this year amid much hoopla and has a $112 million contract, with $75 million guaranteed through the 2024 season.
