Good morning! On this day in 1775, Congress created the Continental Army from militias of all 13 colonies, under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief George Washington.
Today, we’re talking about Donald Trump’s court date in Miami, the White House banning a trans activist who went topless on the grounds, and Sir Paul McCartney enlisting AI to produce one final Beatles song.

Trump Pleads Not Guilty
Donald Trump pleaded not guilty in federal court Tuesday to 37 counts of mishandling classified documents while hundreds of his supporters cheered, chanted, and waved flags outside.
After his court appearance, Trump stopped at Versailles, an iconic Cuban eatery in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood, where people sang “Happy Birthday.” Trump turns 77 today.
Prosecutors vowed the case would move swiftly, but experts say it’ll take at least a year because classified documents are involved—well into the 2024 presidential election season. | Burisma Exec Allegedly Recorded Biden
Sen. Chuck Grassley told the Senate Monday that the Burisma executive who allegedly paid Joe Biden and his son Hunter for access kept 17 tape recordings of their conversations as an “insurance policy.”
The allegation of the tapes’ existence came from a redacted version of an FBI whistle-blower document that the FBI refused to turn over to Congress. Instead, the agency agreed only to let House members review the document.
At the heart of the charges are allegations that Burisma discussed an alleged bribe of $5 million to Joe Biden, and another $5 million to Hunter Biden, according to the whistle-blower. | Business Exodus from San Francisco Accelerates
Westfield, a major national mall operator, is giving up its San Francisco Centre mall after 20 years, citing crime and safety issues. The company will turn the mall over to its lenders.
The company joins a growing list of businesses leaving the downtown area, including the operator of two major hotels and retailers such as Anthropologie, Gap, and Marshalls. Whole Foods temporarily closed a flagship store as well.
While other cities have recovered from the pandemic, San Francisco, long a beacon for progressive politics, continues struggling with crime and homelessness.
